Richard F. Maurer
Richard Maurer began his 35 year professional career with an investment advisory firm. Mr. Maurer entered the financial services industry with San Diego Securities, a boutique registered Broker-Dealer that specialized in brokerage services to both retail and institutional clients, including the underwriting of initial and secondary public stock offerings. The IPO of Agouron Pharmaceuticals, a local biotechnology company was an early success. The firm raised $6.5 million from an initial offering and was later acquired by Warner-Lambert for $2.1 billion. He was the recipient of two Top Producer Awards and was promoted to Vice-President/Investments.
Mr. Maurer later joined Smith Barney, Harris and Upham where he served as a consultant in an advisory capacity to local corporate officers regarding their stock option programs. He was recognized for developing a powerful business network among local banking institutions by becoming a “market-maker” in their stocks. In addition, he developed a new marketing and sales program with many OTC firms for the purpose of placing IPO shares into the retail market.
Mr. Maurer moved into real estate development projects in 1999 when he joined Garden Communities, a San Diego based owner/builder, as a member of their management team. He returned to his passion for “building,” which he acquired throughout his college days in San Diego, where he majored in Finance/Marketing at San Diego State University. His construction management experience includes multi-family apartments, condominiums, luxury homes, commercial construction, tenant improvements, podium work and rehabilitation projects. He was involved with business development, contract review, contract buyout, schedule review and LEED initiatives. In over 12 years of multi-family project development experience, he has been directly involved in the project management of over 5,000 units exceeding $1.B in land and construction costs.
